We all know that your baby’s teeth won’t last forever, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t important. Your child’s baby teeth, while they will fall out in just a couple of years, are the teeth that will determine the future of your child’s smile. That being said, it is incredibly important that these teeth are properly cared for so that the teeth that follow in their footprints can come in healthy and work as intended to. Here are a few of the major milestones that you’ll see with your little one’s dental care and what you can expect at each milestone.
Six Month Mark
Around the six month mark, your baby will have started popping out their first 20 teeth. The full set should start coming in anywhere between six to nine months of age. At this time you have probably started noticing that your little one is chewing on anything that they can get their hands on and is crying with the discomfort of the teeth growing in. Make sure that you have teething toys they can chew on during this time so that they don’t become more frustrated and aggravated by the process.
1 Year Mark
At the one year mark of their life, your little one will likely have around 4 teeth that have grown in entirely, with the rest on their way. This is about the time that we suggest taking your child to their first dentist appointment. With the first few teeth grown in, we’re able to tell if there are any serious dental conditions that we need to be worried about. At the same time, we’re able to run through the teeth brushing process with you and your little one. While you may have years on years of brushing your teeth, it’s important to know how to properly care for your baby’s teeth and understand how it differs.
After these two milestones, you can count on the rest of the teeth growing in, and then slowly falling out. The tooth fairy is known for popping up around age 3 and 4.
