In our last blog post we covered a few of the treats that may be delicious, but do no good for your teeth. This week we are going to cover a few other foods that we may enjoy, but can actually cause more damage to our teeth than we are aware of. In fact, if you ask most dentists, we may have a soft spot for a few of the foods on the list, but we won’t disagree that consumption of these items can do some serious damage to your pearly whites.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but that isn’t the case for the dentist. If you have weak teeth or teeth that are sensitive, then apples and other forms of crunchy foods are not going to do any good for your teeth. Apples and carrots, while both incredibly healthy, are two of of the snags most likely to crack a tooth. This doesn’t mean that you need to get rid of these snacks all together. Rather than bite into them, cut these snacks into small sizes and enjoy them that way.
Our teeth stain pretty easily, especially when they’re exposed to darker colors. Red pasta sauce is one of the foods that can do some serious staining for teeth. Aside from the dark color of red pasta sauce, the acidity of the tomatoes make this is one of the items that can break down the enamel more and more over time. We suggest brushing not too long after you do enjoy some red pasta sauce.
These are only a couple of the foods that can do more harm than good for your pearly whites, but in the next couple of days we will dive into a few more fan favorites that you might want to keep an eye out before you enjoy them. Check back soon to see what other items could leave you in a place where you need some serious dental care done.
